LookStyler founder & CEO Mirjana Perkovic has been through the trials and tribulations of launching a startup and she’s got 10 valuable tips for aspiring female founders.
1. FOLLOW YOUR PASSION & DREAMS
Launching a startup involves many hours of hard work and dedication over a long period of time. Be aware that the path will not be easy, so only embark on it it if you are deeply passionate about your project and mission and you are confident it will be what you want in the long run.
2. GET THOROUGHLY INFORMED
In order to succeed, you need to know the industry you are trying to disrupt inside and out. You need to become a point of reference within your sector, which means you need to know it better than most experts, along with any recent trends and developments.
3. TEAM UP
The key to success is a strong team. Know your strengths and weaknesses and surround yourself with key experts that complement you and your skills and that fit your personality and work ethic.
4. INNOVATE, PIVOT & DISRUPT

5. THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL
The world has become so interconnected, you can easily look beyond the borders and get help from experts, future employees and investors in your sector. The world is your village. Think global and implement on a local level.
6. STAY PEOPLE-FOCUSED
In order for your startup idea to take off, it needs to be people-centered. If people do not adopt and pay for your product, all that you’ve done would have been in vain. Focus on the people that your product or service should attract, namely: customers, employees, industry experts and investors. Knowing their needs will help your business grow exponentially.
7. BUILD PARTNERSHIPS
Seek help and connections within your industry. If big industry players recognize your idea as very innovative, you are on the right track.
8. BE PROACTIVE
In order to sell yourself and your startup, you need to become very visible. You need to continuously promote yourself and what you’re doing. Start by building your brand on social media and work on it offline at relevant networking events.
9. THINK POSITIVELY
Your success will be proportionate to the amount of rejection you can take. Move past negativity and develop the mental strength needed to succeed. Stay positive.
10. NEVER GIVE UP
As any professional athlete would tell you, it takes a lot of hard work to finally succeed at what you set out to do and become well known or profitable. It could take years for your startup to get off the ground and gain traction so be prepared for the long haul and don’t get discouraged by small setbacks along the way.
What does not kill you, makes you stronger, better informed and more resilient. Adopt the approach of never giving up and you will be ready to withstand the small and the big storms, which sets you up for success, sooner or later.
